New Vocational Training Program in Nairobi

A new vocational training program for disadvantaged youth was launched at Amrita Watoto Boma, care home in Athi River, Nairobi. For a period of three months, 90 youth will receive training in IT, electrical engineering, hospitality and garment making. The initiative is a joint venture between CAPs-Youth Empowerment Institute and Mata Amritanandamayi Math Charitable Trust, Kenya.

During the launching ceremony, Viktor Mwendwa, 22, one of the new electrical students, said: "I believe that in me lies a piece of gold – if I explore myself and accept what I get through this vocational training course I will become the best I can be."

"You can never make it in life if you have a low self-esteem," he continued, "but if you look at yourself as a winner, if you believe in yourself, you can make it in life. All of my fellow students should have the same spirit – it is such a privilege to be trainees here in Athi River. This is a second chance that we get to prove ourselves. I would like to tell the representatives from the industries around here that we are going to make a difference in this nation. I don't know how many "Thank You's" I can say, how I can pass on this gratitude to you. This is the best that we can get."
