Amma inspires us to gift a sapling on Vishu

Gift a Sapling on the auspicious Harvest Festival of Vishu - Amma

In the ancient Sanskrit language, Vishu means equal, which implies the day with equal number hours of day and night or the equinox. Vishu symbolizes the beginning of spring. It is celebrated in Kerala, India as the harvest festival and the astrological New Year.

Amma often emphasises the significance of caring for nature with love and reverence. Amma says, “Today, our air, food, and water are all polluted. If we do not stop exploiting nature for our temporary selfish gains, we will destroy this beautiful wish-fulfilling garden that is the world.”

Vishu is a time for new beginnings, new hopes, and new aspirations. So, instead of giving money to the younger generation and relatives, let us follow Amma’s unique teaching of Vishu Thaineettam—giving saplings to our near ones. Let them plant and care for these saplings. This will not only send a message of loving for nature, but also of the beautiful value of oneness.
This year’s Vishu has a special highlight. The World Malayalee (People originally from Kerala, South India) Council is joining hands with the Mata Amritanandamayi Math to propagate and promote this amazing vision of our founder, Amma. To kick-start and celebrate this occasion, a function is being organised in Amritapuri, India on April 15th at 6:00 p.m. (IST). Prominent office-bearers and members of the World Malayalee Council will also take part. Along with Amma’s followers from across the globe, World Malayalee Council members from all over the world will also be present virtually during the function.

We are confident that the Ashram’s partnership with the World Malayalee Council will make this event even more impactful, reaching out to an even wider audience.

We request all of Amma’s admirers and followers, institutions, centers, branches, and prayer groups—across India and outside the country—to take part in this auspicious ceremony on April 15th at 6:00 p.m. (Indian Standard Time). Doing this at the same time it happens in Amritapuri, will help make this a grand success.
