Women Empowerment Project
AMMACHI Labs is an academic and research center at Amrita University that brings an interdisciplinary approach to addressing societal challenges. As a Center of Excellence, we envision a world where technology is designed and used to empower people. We create innovative educational tools and skill development solutions to help uplift entire communities. In our commitment to rural villages of India – the very communities that stand to benefit the most from skill development – we are as excited about our continuing development of community outreach solutions as we are about our focused R&D for CHI, robotics and automation, haptic technologies and applied robotics.
AMMACHI Labs has successfully deployed several projects in collaboration with top funding agencies. Woman Empowerment Project is one of them.
Women Empowerment Project
The WE Project was funded jointly by the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) and Amrita University. During an 18-month period (2012-2014),the WE Project offered computerized Vocational Education and Training(cVET) and Life Enrichment Education (LEE), to women with low levels of literacy living in remote and impoverished communities, reached 3,136 women in the Indian states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu plus over 900 in other states totaling over 4000 women.
“AMMACHI Labs has the most creative way of empowering women. Of all of the projects which the UN funds around the world, this is the one dearest to our heart. It’s the one we are most proud of. And it’s the one that we intend to take to the rest of the world so that they can learn from what you have achieved.”
-Ms. Lise Grande, Head of UN, India.
