AYUDH Bay Area Helps the Homeless with 30 Bags of Clothes
AYUDH Bay Area gathered Sunday December 14th to give to those in need. Thanks to the M.A. Center Satsang, they collected over 30 bags of pants, shirts, sweaters and jackets. AYUDH then teamed up with Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency (BOSS), an organization that helps to rehabilitate the homeless, disabled and destitute of the Bay Area, to give away the clothing.
BOSS invited participants in their programs to come to their downtown Oakland center, where AYUDH set up tables heaped with clothing. As people came in from the cold, they were greeted by the youth, who helped them fill up bags with what they needed most. People were as happy to receive as the youth were to give.
After the clothing drive BOSS set aside some of the nicer donations that were left, for their Workforce Development Program. They are setting up a ‘interview closet,’ for people who are trying to get a job but can’t afford interview clothing.
The AYUDH participants learned that even small things like a dress shirt or the right shoes can change the course of someone’s life. They were happy to be able to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate, and hope to do similar service projects in the future.
