AYUDH Atlanta Serves 3,322 Meals to homeless in 2020
"By doing selfless service for at least one day, everyone should help the poor and needy. It is Amma's prayer that at least this small dream be realized." ~ Amma
Since June 2020, Ayudh Atlanta with the assistance of M.A Center Atlanta decided to take on a new initiative of helping and supporting the homeless during the pandemic. Ayudh partnered with Food4Lives - a service founded by students of Georgia Tech and Emory to feed, educate and empower the homeless of Atlanta. They serve the homeless in 3 simple ways: Annadanam (Feeding the homeless for free), Vastradanam (Providing the homeless basic physical needs and shelter) and Vidyadanam (Educating the homeless for free).
AYUDH members cook meals on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday and engage in contactless delivery of the food. The collected food is then packaged in compostable boxes and distributed to the homeless by Food4Lives volunteers. To date, Ayudh with the support of several satsang members have prepared a total of 3,322 nutritious vegetarian meals that was distributed among the homeless in downtown Atlanta.
AYUDH Atlanta also held a cloth donation drive in summer and winter of 2020. More than 2000 pieces of men's and women's gently used clothing was collected for distribution to the homeless. Several boxes of jackets, sweaters and blankets were also collected and distributed to the needy.
AYUDH will continue its partnership with Food4Lives in 2021 too.
