Aug 5-7: Farming Seva

Volunteers harvesting beans

Early apples are ready to pick!

A busy weekend awaits us! Many volunteers are needed for veggie and apple harvesting. Our early apples have ripened and are ready for picking! We have three trees of Yellow Transparent apples that need to be completely picked this week, and another four trees of Pristine apples that may be ready for picking as well. The Yellow Transparent apples are similar to green Granny apples, but softer in texture. They can be eaten raw, but are a sought after apple for making pies and applesauce due to their soft texture and sweet and sour flavour. The Pristine apples are a sweeter apple that can be cooked or eaten raw. Early apples ripen quickly, and do not store well. We also have some diseased apples that need to be picked and taken to the dump - so, all hands on deck for a weekend of harvesting!

Eggplant, green beans, zucchini, Swiss chard, cabbage, and some tomatoes are available in the veggie garden. The veggie stall is open for sales every Saturday from 11 AM - 4 PM. The Farm Team also donated 35 lbs of Swiss chard and beans to local food banks in July.

Seva timing for this weekend is as follows: Saturday, August 5 from 10 AM - 4 PM, Sunday, August 6 from 12 noon - 4 PM, and Monday, August 7 from 12 noon - 4 PM for apple picking, and veggie harvesting. Any help you can give us between these timings would be most appreciated. A light lunch will be provided on Saturday, and snacks on Sunday and Monday. A kind reminder to wear closed-toe shoes. Please come and spend some time in Amma's gardens. You can choose your seva by signing up HERE. For more info or to reach the Farm Team, email ammatoronto@ammagroups.org.
