December 12: Farming Update

Beehives in a field

Beekeeping Update

The Beekeeping team completed its fall management and recently wrapped the hives, making sure our bees are prepared for the upcoming harsh winter months of cold and wind. Bees are active all winter long, protecting their queen until spring. They cluster tightly around the queen and keep her warm by shivering and flapping their wings. This takes a lot of energy so bees rotate the duty of being on the outside of the cluster, so that every bee can have a chance to stay warm and not get worn out. Winter bees can survive up to six months in the hive, eating honey to fuel their energy and protect their queen.
