Many hands make light work in the gardens and orchard

It was a busy week in the gardens and the orchard! Several sevites came during the week, and worked on weeding, grass cutting, beekeeping and orchard spraying. These activities continued into the weekend.

Volunteer with weed whacker in the orchardVolunteers did a huge cleanup in the orchard this week: The process started during the week with the cutting of the grass between the trees. This was a huge job! Once done, it gave volunteers the necessary access to cut low hanging branches, cut down the weed overgrowth under many of the trees, and even apply cardboard and wood chips to some trees to prevent the weeds and grass from growing near the trunk.

The veggie garden is having some difficulty with unwanted guests: rabbits have nipped off the newly planted eggplant. The veggie team constructed a barrier around the newly planted eggplant, to keep pests out.

In the flower gardens, various perennial plants were planted after an amazing cleanup of the area. The beekeeping team also received two new bee hives this week, bringing us to a grand total of three hives.Apple tree with trunk surrounded by cardboard covered in wood chips

Weather permitting, farming activities will continue this Saturday, June 22 from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Please consider dropping in for some time to help out; there is much that needs to be done to maintain the property. A light lunch will be served. If you are coming and plan on joining for lunch, please notify Pauline by this Thursday, June 20. Thanks!
