October 15: Farming Update
No Farm Seva this Weekend but Farm Stand Open
Last Saturday, October 7, three volunteers braved the inclement weather to harvest the 'Wealthy' apples. On Sunday, October 8, two volunteers, undeterred by the cold winds, came to harvest the Bosc pears. Despite the small number of volunteers, all the fruits were harvest off of eight apple trees and twelve pear trees. It was very important that this harvesting be completed last weekend since both the Wealthy apple trees and the Bosc pear trees were dropping many of their fruit. This Saturday, October 14, there will be no Farm Seva due to Amma's birthday celebrations led by Swami Dayamritananda. Some veggies, apples, pears, and apple juice will be available for sale after the satsang (around 1:00 PM). Hope to see you there!
There are still many apple trees that need to be picked. This Sunday, October 15, about 20 volunteers from Amrita Bala Kendra will assist with the apple harvest. Next Saturday, October 21, a group of 30 volunteers from Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh will come pick apples. Hopefully these two groups will largely complete this year's orchard harvest. Farm Seva on Saturday, October 21 is therefore cancelled. A big thanks to HSS for giving us a weekend off!
