Deepavali/Diwali Celebration at MACC - Oct 2016
Deepavali (deep - light, avali - row) /Row of lights/ is a colorful festival of India, celebrated by the Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and a section of Buddhists, marking different historical events…all symbolizing the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair.
Annakút - Observed in the northern part of India, particularly in the state of Gujarat, this is a Diwali ceremony where devotees cook fresh vegetarian food and offer them to the deity in the nearby temples as a token of gratitude for a good life. Please bring a small quantity of food to be placed on the altar of Amma at MACC. The food will be distributed after the Satsang as prasad.
The celebration at MACC starts with FIREWORKS at 5:30 and will culminate with a colorful DANDIYA - a traditional folk dance, native to the state of Gujarat. Women of all ages in vibrant outfits participate in this joyous dance.
Come clad in your colorful outfits and dancing shoes!
