About Swamiji

Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri is the Vice-Chairman of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math and President of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Amrita University), which ranks among the top universities in India. He is also the head disciple of world-renowned humanitarian and spiritual leader Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma). He has been with Amma since the 1970s. He has actively led the establishment of Amma's organization, with its humble beginning in Amritapuri, in southern India, to be a worldwide network of organizations spanning spiritual, humanitarian, and educational fields.

He holds a Master’s degree in Philosophy. He is a renowned author and translator, has written: “The Irresistible Attraction of Divinity“ (2019) and “The Colour of the Rainbow: Compassionate Leadership” (2014), many more books, as well as Amma’s Biography. He has compiled and translated more than ten volumes of conversations between Amma and devotees to English. He is a speaker par excellence and has covered topics from sustainability, environmental consciousness, and living with nature to compassion, spirituality, and inner growth. He is a magnificent singer and composer of bhajans (devotional songs). He has traveled worldwide for more than thirty-seven years with Amma and others, promoting world peace and compassion in every aspect of life.

In 1989, Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri initiated AYUDH, an international youth movement dedicated to empowering young people to contribute to a peaceful, sustainable world. His role as the International President of AYUDH is a testament to his commitment to inspiring and mentoring youth worldwide, fostering in them a sense of tolerance, solidarity, and global responsibility.

In 2023, the Government of India appointed Amma as the Chair of Civil 20 (C20) during its Presidency of the G20. As the C20 Troika member, Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri represented Amma, showcasing her leadership and vision in this significant role. Under the stewardship of Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, policies were developed by the C20’s 16 working groups to address crucial challenges, including holistic health and wellbeing, women empowerment, gender equality, community resilience in the face of disaster, access to education, water management, representing the voices of people with disabilities, and the positive and negative implications of technology with its exponential growth.
